I'm curious; how do people write memoirs or autobiographies and re-create whole conversations? Does anybody out there have that kind of memory? I can't remember conversations from a week ago. I'm lucky to remember circumstances, major events, places, sometimes feelings, but conversation?
One of the reasons I put off going back to the memoir; I feel it needs the punch and specificity of conversation...is it fair to just make it up? Does anyone out there (besides Noel, of course) remember he said, she said conversations?

You're funny... but I often wonder that also. How can someone remember a word for word conversation from 40 years ago? I think they kind of remeber the point of the conversation and then make up the words. If you think about it that way it makes it less interesting though, doesn't it?
But I do remember little "snip-its" of conversations from my childhood - pretty much word for word. Certain things just stick. And if it sticks well enough to remember word for word, then I guess it's worth writing down... must be important for some reason, or meaningful at least.
the way one re-creates that conversation is many times just a revealing as what was actually said;; why did I remember it that way??
I know that from time to time my wife gets Historical on me, that is right Historical, she reminds me of something I said 20 years ago. How does she do that? I too cannot remember a conversation from yesterday. I am sure those people jsut adlib it.
